Sligo Rovers vs. Shamrock Rovers EA Sports Cup preview

Rovers take on Shamrock Rovers at the Showgrounds tonight. Rovers will be boosted with the return of central midfielder Richie Ryan but he  may find it hard to get back into the team as Conor O'Grady and Rommy Boco put in two very good performances against U.C.D.
Sligo Rovers will be without John Russell (head) and two long term absemtees Richard Brush (wrist) and Mauro Almedia (achelies).

Shamrock Rovers will be without Dessie Baker (ankle) and Pat Sullivan (knee).

In an interview with Danny Ventre he said:
“We had a good chance to get silverware last season in the FAI Ford Cup but that didn’t work out for us, so this season the EA SPORTS Cup gives us a great opportunity to bring a trophy back to The Showgrounds,” he said.

“I’ve been here three years and last season was the closest we’ve come to getting a trophy. Getting to a final spurs you on – once you get one you want to keep going and get to another final.”

However, Ventre says that it is only recently that the team is beginning to hit top form.

“We weren’t getting the right results at the start of the season,” he said. “We were dominating matches but only getting draws. There were quite a few new signings and I think it took a bit of time for the players to gel, but we seem to have clicked now and we’re on a good run. We just have to keep that going – keep pushing up the league table and hopefully land a cup.”
This should be a very tight encouter which could go all the way to penaltys. already this season the sides have played eachother three times with two draws and Shams winning the other. Please come out and support Rovers tonight as if they win this game they will be favourites to win the competition.
